My name Lisa Sproule with over 30 years experience in Private and Public health care sectors both locally in Tasmania and Interstate. I have worked in many senior nursing roles from Nurse Unit Manager to Clinical Nurse Specialist, in a variety of specialist areas including but not limited to Neuroscience, Rehabilitation, Emergency, Palliative Care, Community and General Practice. Extensive involvement in project management roles for implementation of new patient services. By far the pinnacle of my career has been becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
My greatest passion has always been delivering excellence in patient care and maintaining dignity of life. The importance of teamwork and passion towards all I do underpins my work ethic along with never accepting the word no when it comes to providing better healthcare outcomes for my patients. This breadth of experience culminated in the development of a Nurse Practitioner led Multidisciplinary Health Hub I opened in Bellerive, Hobart. This Hub being Tasmania’sfirst complete multidisciplinary, multidimensional Health Hub.
Over the years I found that patient care particularly chronic disease, was grounded on a reactive model rather than a proactive model. As my Nurse Practitioner role evolved post graduation from my Masters degree I was working in General Practice. I found myself more and more holistically caring for my patients rather than just reactively managing a disease, injury or ailment. It was clear a team approach to patient care was essential for good outcomes.
The Health Hub is now positively changing the landscape of health care in Tasmania. As a Nurse Practitioner owned and led business, the focus improves the ageing experience of all who access her services enabling them the “opportunity to achieve total wellness’”. I am very passionate about developing the Nurse Practitioner nursing role in Australia and as such I have coupled expertise in the clinical field as a Nurse Practitioner Aged Care/Primary Health with an entrepreneurial spirit to project the Nurse Practitioner role firmly on the page. The Innovative Nurse Practitioner role aims to improve access to treatment, provide cost-effective care, target at-risk populations, provide outreach services in rural and remote communities and provide mentorship and clinical expertise to other health professionals. We have been able to maximise the impact of implementation of the role, by developing a business model that supports the Nurse Practitioner led service.
I feel privileged to have the opportunity to proactively work together with and represent the incredibly progressive Nurse Practitioners of Tasmania. In performing this role I will work tirelessly to assist, inspire and support other Nurse Practitioners and prospective Nurse Practitioners, to embrace our journey together as a profession. Whilst learning to be comfortable with feeling uncomfortable and thus disrupting the Status Quo.
