Hi my name is Luke Christofis.
For those that do not know I was endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner in 2004 and was the first Emergency NP in South Australia. During those early years a small group of SA NP's formulated the South Australian Nurse Practitioner Association (SANPA) around the same time as NSW formed the Australian Nurse Practitioner Association (ANPA). Over the course of a few years we realised that a national and unified approach would be in the best interest of the NP movement and the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) was formed.
I have served on the executive of both SANPA and ACNP since their inception and have been fortunate enough to receive a Founding Fellowship of the College and the Inaugural Nurse Practitioner of the year in 2012. I continue to practice at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in South Australia in a group of five Nurse Practitioners.
I currently sit on the ANMAC NP Accreditation committee, which is responsible for accrediting Masters programmes for NP's, and work closely with SA Health, the ANMF and other national bodies investigating provider numbers for Public sector NP's. This committee was recently announced by our Health Minister and we hope with the Ministers support this will enable strong lobbying to the Federal Government.
I am committed to the progression and integration of NP roles within all specialties and over the next two years our state committee will hold a number of small symposiums and face to face meetings for members, so if you have any ideas for topics it would be great to hear them.
