Sharing patient stories is a great way to help spread good news stories about Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and the work we do in providing effective healthcare. There is now an effective avenue to make this happen.
Australia’s peak consumer health organisation, the Consumers Health Forum (CHF), publishes patient stories on its consumer website, Our Health, Our Community (ourhealth.org.au/).
The OurHealth website is focused on telling stories about health services from a consumer perspective—it is the consumer’s voice talking about what works, what doesn’t and how healthcare can be improved.
It puts consumer views in the public arena and supports consumer advocates who work to take the consumer perspective to health decision-making. Consumer advocates work to influence health policy and delivery at all levels—from the highest levels of Government to local service delivery.
CHF is happy to hear from consumers—patients, their carers or family—who have had interactions with NPs who are willing to have their stories published on the website.
These stories are not testimonials. They are plain, simple accounts of healthcare through the consumer’s eyes.
From a nurse practitioner point of view, this is a valuable way to share the everyday work, role and value of NPs in our community.

Healthcare consumers can submit their own written story, or if you prefer, CHF will interview you and write a story which you approve before it is published.
This is a terrific avenue for us to raise awareness and profile about the great and innovative work of NPs and we encourage all healthcare consumers to take advantage of it!
