ACNP W.A. Chapter would like to extend an invitation to:

‘At the Helm' - a Professional Development Day For NPs and NP candidates.

Following on from the success of the last two years, the committee for the WA Chapter ACNP are pleased to invite you to our third annual professional development day  - “At the Helm”.

The day has been compiled to celebrate the success of NP’s throughout Australia, whether that be in private or public practice and in rural or metropolitan centres. As with all events, attempts have been made to accommodate education requests from local members. It is as always a great opportunity to network and to catch up with friends.

This year we are very pleased to announce our invited interstate Keynote speaker and the Minister for Health and Deputy Premier of WA:

Mr Chris Helms RN NP MSN ANP-BC FACNP

Chris is an endorsed nurse practitioner working in private general practice.  He received his formal training as an adult and geriatric nurse practitioner from the University of Wisconsin, based in the United States.  He has worked in diverse healthcare settings, ranging from rural primary healthcare to subspecialty practice in a quaternary referral centre.  He immigrated to Australia in 2007 and has since served on several national boards and committees vested in the advancement of nursing and the nurse practitioner role.  His professional interests include private sector nurse practitioner models of care, primary healthcare, cardiovascular disease, clinical governance, and clinical learning and teaching.

Minister for Health and Deputy Premier of WA Roger Cook will be opening the floor for questions following his welcoming address. This is a crucial time to bring to the minister your questions and also to hear directly from him the Labour Party's plan for Nurse Practitioners in WA.

Please submit your questions to Clinton Fonceca before 25th June so that we can have as many directed to the minister on the day.

Other presenters include Saroj Nazareth (NP of the year 2016)

The day will cover a wide range of topics, including:

    • Pathology swab collection and PCR testing
    • Increasing access to treatment and rural and remote areas via telehealth
    • Dermatology – rashes and red flags
    • Private Practice - Business workshop
    • How to set up a poisons license
    • The NP career in the bush
    • Meningoccal B vaccine
